In order to keep your freestyle skills at the highest level, you need to practice writing your own lyrics. One could spend about four hours a day just simply creating lyrics.
Once you have prepared your lyrics, you need to practice rapping using the lyrics which you have written. Whenever you write, you want to focus on rhyming. Now when you find yourself seriously focusing on freestyling, you don’t want to concentrate on your rhymes. However, the opposite is true when you’re creating your own lyrics. You need to focus on your rhyming.
During the time that you are spending composing your lyrics, you will end up spending a lot of time using your brain to think of some creative rhymes. These lyrics will be part of your rhyming vocabulary. You may find that you could incorporate most of your rhymes in any of your freestlyes.
Get a journal and begin writing. Write every day preferably composing at least one song a day. Again you must keep in mind that you’ll want to rap these lyrics every day also so that you practice writing and rapping. Watch your lyrics become an element of your vocabulary.
Part of writing lyrics is to have material to draw from. Sometimes your mind can go blank and you feel as if you don’t have any material. When you get to this point it is time to just stop. Put your pencil down, close your eyes and let your senses go to work.
At this point don’t use your sight. I prefer to close my eyes and start off using my hearing sense. We get so busy that we often don’t spend some time to concentrate to the world around us. If you are in the country, stop and listen to the sounds of nature. Listen for different bird sounds. Listen to hear if you hear a frog or maybe a cricket. Listen to the sounds of the wind blowing, the trees swaying in the wind. Listen for any sounds of equipment running or the sounds of cars and trucks. This gives you an idea of how you can use your ears.
Another sense which i love to take the time to use is actually my sense of smell. I see if I can smell anything cooking, or smell some animals, or smell the flowers. There are just a variety of things that we can sense once we use our sense of smell.
These are just several examples of methods that you can come up with material to write about whenever we enable ourselves stop and use the senses that God gave us.
